Casey’s Cottage
The Quaint Little Cottage by the Lake
Revised April 26, 2007
Nestled in the trees at Mexico Point, Casey's Cottage is truly a
“gem.”
During the 1930s, Dr. William C. Casey, a Columbia University
professor, and Severin Bischof, an artist working for Syroco, with the
help of their friends, transformed an old carriage house into a 11th
century manor house. Seventy-nine thousand man-hours went into the
building’s renovation! The medieval influence is apparent in the
life-size wall carvings, the huge fireplace complete with chains for the
hounds, and ceilings carved with old English and Gaelic quotes. The
Cottage continues to amaze and mystify all who visit this anachronism on
the shores of Lake Ontario. The cottage is open for free tours during
all Mexico Point Park events.
